NHS 111 Referral
Been referred to us by NHS 111? Our pharmacy team can provide a professional consultation, advice and appropriate treatment or support based on your NHS 111 referral.
Depending on your circumstances, NHS 111 may refer you to a community pharmacy for:
Assessment and advice for a minor illness
Support with certain symptoms or health concerns
An urgent supply of a medicine you have previously been prescribed, where appropriate
Advice about your medicines
Further assessment by a pharmacist
Referral or signposting to another healthcare service if you require additional care
The support available will depend on the reason for your NHS 111 referral and the pharmacist's clinical assessment.
During your consultation, our pharmacist will:
Review the information provided in your NHS 111 referral
Discuss your symptoms or medication needs
Ask relevant questions about your medical history and current medicines
Carry out an appropriate clinical assessment
Provide professional advice
Recommend or provide treatment where appropriate
Refer or signpost you to another healthcare professional or service if further care is required
Your pharmacist will explain the recommended next steps and answer any questions you may have.
NHS 111 may refer you to a community pharmacy if you have urgently run out of a medicine that you have previously been prescribed and are unable to obtain a prescription in time.
Our pharmacist will assess your request and determine whether an emergency supply can be made safely and legally.
Please provide as much information as possible about your medication. If available, having access to your medication packaging, repeat prescription information or NHS App may help the pharmacist confirm your usual treatment.
An urgent supply cannot always be made, and some medicines are subject to additional legal restrictions. If we cannot provide the medicine, we'll advise you on the most appropriate next step.
Please make sure you have already been referred to the pharmacy by NHS 111 before selecting this service.
Where possible, please have the following information available:
Your name, date of birth and contact details
Details of your NHS 111 referral
A list of any medicines you're currently taking
Details of any allergies
Relevant medication packaging or repeat prescription information if your referral relates to an urgent medicine supply
This can help our pharmacy team deal with your referral as efficiently as possible.
If NHS 111 has referred you to a PillBox Chemists pharmacy, our pharmacy team can provide a professional consultation and help you access the appropriate care.
NHS 111 may refer you to a community pharmacy when a pharmacist is well placed to assess your needs, provide clinical advice or help you access an urgent supply of a medicine you have previously been prescribed.
Our pharmacist will review your referral, discuss your symptoms or medication needs and determine the most appropriate next step.

This service is intended for patients who have been referred to the pharmacy through NHS 111.
All treatment and medicine supplies are subject to a pharmacist's clinical assessment, eligibility requirements and relevant NHS and medicines regulations.
An NHS 111 referral does not guarantee that a particular medicine or treatment will be supplied. If our pharmacist determines that another healthcare service is more appropriate for your needs, we'll advise you on the appropriate next step.
If you have not yet contacted NHS 111 and need urgent medical help that is not a life-threatening emergency, please contact NHS 111 first.
