Skin Infection - Pharmacy First
Think an insect bite has become infected? Our pharmacists can assess eligible patients aged 1 year and over, provide expert advice, and supply NHS treatment where clinically appropriate, helping you access care without waiting for a GP appointment.

If you have an insect bite that has become infected, you may not need to wait for a GP appointment. Through the NHS Pharmacy First service, our qualified pharmacists can assess infected insect bites and, where clinically appropriate, provide NHS treatment, including antibiotics if needed.
This service is available for adults and children aged 1 year and over with symptoms of an infected insect bite.
What happens during your consultation?
During your consultation, one of our pharmacists will:

Assess the affected area and determine whether it is infected
Review your medical history and any current medication
Recommend the most appropriate treatment
Supply NHS medication where clinically appropriate
Refer you to your GP or another healthcare service if your symptoms require further assessment
Your consultation is private, confidential, and focused on helping you receive the right care as quickly as possible.
