Tetanus, diphtheria and polio (DTP) - vaccination

Protect yourself against tetanus, diphtheria and polio with our private Td/IPV vaccination service. Commonly recommended for travellers visiting certain destinations and those requiring a booster vaccination.

The Tetanus, Diphtheria & Polio (Td/IPV) vaccine helps protect against three serious bacterial and viral diseases.

  • Tetanus is caused by bacteria entering the body through cuts or wounds and can lead to painful muscle stiffness and spasms (lockjaw).

  • Diphtheria is a serious bacterial infection that mainly affects the throat and airways.

  • Polio is a viral infection that can affect the nervous system and, in some cases, cause permanent paralysis.

Our private Td/IPV vaccination service is commonly recommended for travellers visiting destinations where these diseases remain a risk or for individuals who require a booster dose.

Before vaccination, one of our healthcare professionals will assess your travel plans, vaccination history and medical history to determine whether the vaccine is appropriate for you.

Who should consider the Td/IPV vaccine?

The Td/IPV vaccine may be suitable for:

  • Travellers visiting destinations where tetanus, diphtheria or polio remain a risk

  • Individuals travelling to remote areas where access to healthcare may be limited

  • People whose previous vaccination requires a booster

  • Anyone wishing to ensure their routine protection is up to date before travelling

If you're unsure whether you need this vaccination, our healthcare professional can provide personalised travel health advice based on your destination and individual circumstances.

What happens during your appointment?

During your appointment, one of our qualified healthcare professionals will:

  • Review your travel plans and vaccination history

  • Assess whether the Td/IPV vaccine is recommended for you

  • Discuss the benefits and possible side effects of the vaccine

  • Administer the vaccination safely

  • Provide aftercare advice and answer any questions

The vaccination is given as an injection into the upper arm, and appointments usually take around 15–20 minutes.

Why choose PillBox Chemists?

Please note

The Td/IPV Vaccination is a private service and charges apply.

For most travellers, a single booster dose is recommended if it has been around 10 years since your last tetanus-containing vaccine and you are travelling to an area where additional protection is advised. Your healthcare professional will review your vaccination history and advise whether a booster is required.

Following vaccination, protection is generally long-lasting. Booster doses are typically recommended every 10 years for people who remain at increased risk or are travelling to destinations where protection is advised.
